Since the terrible event that happened last summer, Leah has been lost. Her parents have drifted away and turned into ghosts. Her friends and teachers treat her awkwardly and uncomfortably. She’s planning to have a summer lounging around the house and being lazy.
But that’s until she meets wild and creative Jasper, who seems… just as different. And when Leah finds out about Jasper’s secret, and she about hers, they quickly become the best of friends.
This is a the second summer in a row, but in a good way this time, that Leah will never, ever forget.
I rather enjoyed this book. The biggest theme in this book is friendship–there is a touching and real bond between Jasper and Leah. They are both girls who have gone through something horrible. They build a “magical realm” where they put everything else behind them. And they stay strong, trusting and relying on each other.
I was touched by this book. It was different from other books that I’ve read about friendship. It also incorporates death in it. I was nearly brought to tears while reading.
Snyder writes well, bringing feeling into the book. Good books often have a good meaning and reason behind them.
Recommended for people who believe in the unbreakable bond of true friendship.
