One-Eyed Cat is a nice book written by Paula Fox. When Ned Wallis fires the forbidden gun, he shoots a cat without knowing it. Now, the cat is missing an eye–and Ned finds himself guilty, fearful, and lying about his shot. Ned lies to his parents to hide the truth about the gun and cat.

As we progress through the book, we see that Ned commits three lies. They all result in him feeling guilty and revolted at himself. By the end of the book, he has learned how awful and gruesome lies are. Ned lies many times to his parents to hide the truth of his forbidden shooting. One-Eyed Cat, along with other books such as The Ickabog and Shiloh, involves the idea of having a web of lies and fibs until you find yourself anxious and tense, and nearly or actually found out.

The reason I only gave this book a “okayish” is because I simply don’t fully enjoy the plot. Although this is a book with my favorite animal, a cat, the plot happens a bit too suddenly. And maybe it’s just because I’ve been reading too many similar books these days, and you have to get bored of the same thing over and over again, right (unless in the case of some absolutely amazing books, movies, etc.)?
