Jeff and Wiley are two best friends who are the nicknamers at Old Orchard Public School (dubbed OOPS).

They have nicknamed everyone, including a boy named Charles who hates his nickname, Snoopy. Charles believes that nicknames are like a prophecy; what you call someone is what they have to become.

Not believing this, Jeff and Wiley start a challenge with Charles. They will come up with a nickname for someone, and see its effect to see if Charles’s theory is correct. Charles selects Mike Smith, a student who has pretty much no personality and is nicknamed “Iceman”.

Besides this, a new girl named Cassandra enters the class. Quickly, the two best friends begin to fight over the wild and carefree girl, both wanting her to love him, and him only.

Also, the class has a new English teacher: Mr. Hughes (Mr. Huge). He’s something in between King Kong and Incredible Hulk. A former football coach, he runs around the classroom like a maniac, cheering the kids on with his motto, “Give a hundred and ten percent!”, drinks gallons of Gatorade, and sweats a whole lot during tests. But Mr. Huge is still very popular in the class, and when he’s on the verge of losing his job, the students in 6B (the “Dim Bulbs”) know they have to help him.

This year, Jeff and Wiley are going to need to give a hundred and ten percent to save their friendship, their nicknames, and their teacher.

I’ve been reading a lot of Gordon Korman books these days, but I never get bored of his books. They are juicy and full of content, and his descriptions are also vivid. Besides, it’s also hilarious. I laughed heartily at the nicknames Jeff and Wiley came up with. The 6th Grade Nickname Game I enjoyed, though not as much as Restart, Slacker, Level 13, and others, but it is still a good book, and highly recommended.
