Alan Gratz once again brings a story of World War II; he puts his setting during D-Day. Dee is a sixteen year old boy who joins the army. He fights many people and sees so much die when he comes to Omaha Beach, where battle is raging between Germans and the Allies. Dee has a terrible secret: he was born in Germany. Will this ruin his friendship and make him lose his life from his own teammates? But Dee is not alone. During the story, there are five other characters: Samira, a girl in France that works as a spy to sabotage the German army, James, a paratrooper who joins a midnight raid, Bill, a tank driver who sadly dies in the battle, never seeing the Bayeux Tapestry that he was so interested in, Henry, a daring but black medic who craves equality, and Monique, a young girl who wishes to be a doctor and pretends the be a medic. All these characters, from different countries and continents, join together to defeat and fight Germany. These young men and women are allies.
