It is very rare for me to read a nonfiction book. I know that I probably should, and it’s one of my weaknesses in reading.

So, I decided to try All Thirteen. I’d heard something about the rescue of some boys from a cave a few years ago, but as a kid, I’d never really paid attention.

After reading the book, I would learn that it wasn’t just an ordinary rescue. It could have

been described as legendary.

All Thirteen focuses on a dangerous and miraculous, yet amazingly true, tale. On June 23, 2018, thirteen members of a Thai soccer team went exploring in a deep cave: Tham Luang. But when they tried getting out, they were blocked by a swirling, dark mass of water–Tham Luang had flooded, leaving the boys trapped inside the cave.

And after that came a series of desperate searching and rescuing outside the cave, and a struggle to stay mentally healthy inside it. Professional divers and cavers from all over the world flocked to save the lives of the thirteen boys.

Although many people in the world already know about the famous rescue mission, Soontornvat describes the entire event perfectly, with details too. While I was reading the book, I could almost feel my heart in my throat as I prayed that the boys would be rescued out. I’m not professional at rating nonfiction books, but this is all I’ll say for this book: If you need a real, suspenseful book to read–or if you want to learn about the rescue of thirteen Thai boys from Tham Luang–then All Thirteen is the perfect choice.
