Twelve-year-old Dashiell Gibson is living on the moon.

Literally.

It’s the year 2040, and with the help of the most modern technology, there’s a colony of people residing on the moon. It seems like the best place ever, right?

Nope. Dashiell also was excited–but living on the moon is boring and inconvenient. Sleeping, going to the bathroom, and everything else is highly difficult and uncomfortable. Dashiell wants to go back.

But then there’s a murder on the moon.

At least, Dashiell thinks so. Everyone else agrees that Dr. Holtz just went onto the lunar surface with his helmet on wrong, and died. But the doctor was Moon Base Alpha’s top scientist. Why would he do that? Plus, Dashiell hears that Dr. Holtz had a new, amazing discovery. He’s suspicious that someone has killed the doctor–to keep the finding a secret.

Unfortunately, no one believes him.

Space Case is a unique sci-fi tale filled with adventure and suspense. This was particularly new for me, and out of my comfort zone. I almost never touch science fiction, and I normally don’t like mysteries. Murder makes me shudder. I read this book only to go to a school book club (which I forgot about and missed. Oops).

But this book was a stunning surprise. My expectations weren’t high, but the book was great. I especially liked the plot twists in the book, which were fun and astonishing. Gibbs also puts humor into his book, which is what some recent books I’ve read are missing. I like when the books I read are funny and serious at the same time (a reason two of my favorite English authors are Gordon Korman and Alan Gratz).

I don’t have much to say about this book (The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because I don’t give those out often and this isn’t good enough to the extremes. If you ever see me give out 5 stars, you have to go read that book. It’s mandatory. Just kidding. I’m getting off topic). It’s… simply extraordinary and wondrous. Is there any doubt on that?
