The moment I spotted this book, I knew I would like it. Although tigers aren’t my favorite animal (cats are), the cover was already transfixing enough for me to get hooked.

Now let’s get into the story.

It’s one of fantasy, and it includes adventure, suspense, myth, and a loving grandmother. It shows the importance and wonders of storytelling.

Lily is a Korean girl who moves in with her grandma, otherwise called Halmoni (hal-mo-nee). But she realizes that her beloved Halmoni is terribly sick. So when a magical tiger tells Lily to return what Halmoni stole a long time ago from her, she agrees. Yet she doesn’t know what she has done–are tigers trustworthy?

This recent 2021 Newbery Medal winner is filled with magic, and it contains an amazing plot. It is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys Korean culture, tigers, stories, affectionate grandmas, and almost anything else.
