Many people believe that people’s personalities can never change, or never change greatly. But maybe some people can transform into a completely different person, almost like a new one.
Restart, written by one of my favorite authors, Gordon Korman, is truly spectacular for elementary school students in higher grades and middle school students. Readers are whisked into Chase Ambrose’s struggles. I myself was touched by the book greatly. Not only is it humorous, Korman’s books is descriptive and vivid; this is not an exception. Whether it is the plot or the writing, this is a greatly recommended book.
Chase Ambrose is the biggest school bully at Hiawassee Middle School, along with his sidekicks Aaron and Bear, and has terrorized kids throughout the school. One of his biggest victims is Joel Weber, Shoshanna Weber’s younger brother (well, by a few minutes), who was forced to move schools because of him.
But Chase is hit with amnesia and memory loss when he falls off a tall building. Suddenly, he doesn’t know where he is, who his family is, who his friends are, and most importantly: Who he is.
Clueless, he is perplexed and bewildered when students that catch sight of him run away with a look of terror on their faces. His toddler half-sister screams when he touches her. A girl named Shoshanna And his best friends (he doesn’t even recognize them) seem to think all this is normal.
When Chase finally realizes who he was, he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do in his shock and confusion.
“People say I’ve changed. I’m barely beginning to understand how much.”
Can Chase find out who he wants and is going to be?
