Hatchet is a good book, but it is- how to say? -too normal, I guess. It is about a boy named Brian who goes through a terrible divorce of his parents. His head is full of words, such as The Secret, which is when he saw his mother kissing a man that was not his father, and The Divorce. He then goes, during the summer, to Canada on a plane to visit his dad when the pilot has a heart attack and he died. The plane crashes into a lake and Brian finds himself alone. He is scared but is sure that people will come and rescue him, for when the pilot was dying he had turned on the transmitter. But after many days without a sight of a plane, Brian began to lose hope. But he knew that he had to have hope. So Brian lived on, eating berries in the wild and surviving by catching fish and birds. In the woods of Canada, Brian slowly learns that he has no time for self-pity, tears, and fear. He grew to know the woods and learned how to use all tools around him after a plane comes but does not see him. He, luckily, finds a survival pack in the plane and it has many supplies. Also, Brian finds and Emergency Transmitter and turns it on by accident. To his surprise and joy, a man comes because he heard the transmitter. I like this adventurous story, but it is too, as I said, too “normal”. So many stories are like: a person is stranded, he/she survives, they are rescued. For example, Robinson Crusoe, which I am reading, is something like that.
