In this sequel to The Mysterious Benedict Society, the four kids (Reynie, Sticky, Kate and Constance) find, with horror, that their friends and even dad (for Constance, Mr. Benedict had adopted him) had been captured by the evil Mr. Curtain: the non-sleeping Number Two, and the kind Mr. Benedict. So, they embark on another adventure to save their friends.
On the journey, they first go by boat and meet Captain Noland, Mr. Benedict’s friend and solve many clues to find where Mr. Benedict and Number Two are. Unfortunately, they always met Ten Men, who were helpers of Mr. Curtain. Soon the Ten Men had caught them and they were handcuffed. The helpless kids first managed to escape with the help of Milligan into a cave, and they found “Mr. Benedict” kidnapped in it! But turns out the “Mr. Benedict” is actually Mr. Curtain. They were, once again caught and handcuffed. Also, the kids found the real Mr. Benedict kidnapped in the same cave. Now it was twin to twin, both with narcolepsy, meaning that they could fall asleep when their emotions were too great. With the help of S.Q. Pedalian(who was on Mr. Curtain’s side, but he was actually a good spirit, except Mr. Curtain had saved his life; Mr. Benedict tricked him) they managed to escape. But it was close, with Milligan badly hurt. On their next adventure, though, the kids will be closer to danger than ever before.
