First Light has two main characters, called Peter and Thea. Peter is a normal boy, whose father works at Greenland, studying global warming. He is very excited when his father is going to take him and his mother to Greenland. But there he finds a secret passageway. This passageway turns out to be a route into the ground, into Thea’s homeland!
Thea’s people have been nearly driven to extinction, because they were accused of witchcraft. But Thea’s ancestor, Grace, found a way into the deep snow of Greenland. There they settled a city, called Gracehope. Grace’s hope was one day her people could be in the real world again without being hunted. A few decades later, Thea’s mother, Mai, found the secret passageway but died trying to climb up it. Her sister, Aurora, was with her. No one(in Gracehope) ever saw Aurora again. Thea followed her mother’s footsteps and started to climb the passageway. There she met Peter. But Peter’s mother turned out to be the long lost Aurora! She had made it to the top for her sister and married Peter’s father. When Peter came down into the passageway, and his mother came down too and told him, “I was born here, Peter. Gracehope was my home.” , he was so amazed. This is the wonderful story of Peter and Thea’s adventures.
